SAVE Foundation

Run Directly by a Registered NPO

Faculty leaders and school staff work with one accountable, on-the-ground partner for the full lifecycle of the trip: curriculum alignment, logistics, risk management, safeguarding, and a final report suitable for academic credit or institutional reporting. Because SAVE Foundation is the implementing partner — not a booking agent — every programme is grounded in genuine community or conservation need, delivered alongside our established local partners rather than in place of local staff or jobs.

Tailor-Made, Not Off-the-Shelf

No two groups are the same, so no two itineraries are either. The seven example programmes on this page show the kind of academic focus areas we build around most often – business and entrepreneurship, sport and youth development, history and heritage, STEM, conservation, and community-based social work – but each is a starting point for a conversation, not a fixed package. We work with faculty or school staff to align programme content with specific learning outcomes, assessment requirements, group size, budget and travel dates.

SAVE Foundation Group Service-Learning Programmes

Business and commerce students put classroom theory to work through real small-business placements in Cape Town’s townships, supporting local owners with market research, bookkeeping, marketing and costing.

Sport science and physical education groups plan and run structured coaching sessions and skills clinics for children in under-resourced South African communities, working alongside local community teams.

University and school groups lead business-skills and leadership workshops for local young people, covering idea validation, costing, pitching and practical leadership, under the guidance of our local team.

Through guided site visits and facilitated community dialogue, student groups explore apartheid and reconciliation first-hand, with briefing materials that support critical reflection tied to their coursework.

Engineering and computer science students deliver coding, robot-building and computer-literacy sessions to learners at partner schools, applying their technical knowledge and building the confidence of the next generation.

Secondary-school groups combine community engagement in Cape Town at partner schools and early childhood centres with a guided, science-led wildlife safari in the Western Cape.

Three days of community learning in Cape Town lead into a week of hands-on conservation fieldwork with the Wildlife Guardians team in the Klein Karoo, built for Life Sciences, Geography and IB CAS groups.

Students get supervised veterinary fieldwork on a working livestock farm in Cathcart, Eastern Cape, handling horses, sheep, cattle and wildlife, before a two-day conservation safari at a private game reserve.
