Sports & Development Programme

Sport science and physical education groups plan and run structured coaching sessions and skills clinics for children in under-resourced South African communities, working alongside local community teams.

Sports & Development Programme

Organised sport remains out of reach for many children in South Africa’s under-resourced communities, where school sport budgets are limited and safe, supervised after-school activity is scarce. Structured sport and play has been shown by South African youth-development research to reduce school dropout risk, build teamwork and self-regulation, and give children a protective, supervised space outside school hours — benefits that compound when coaching is consistent rather than once-off.

This programme pairs university and school groups with local children for structured sport coaching, skills clinics and development-focused play sessions, built around whichever codes and age groups the group is best placed to coach. Sport science and physical education students apply coaching theory and session planning directly; the programme can also incorporate basic life-skills and development content alongside the sport itself, run in partnership with our local community teams so the activity complements rather than replaces existing school sport structures.

FAQ's

We build around the group’s coaching strengths — most commonly football, netball, rugby and athletics — and confirm the specific codes and age groups during itinerary design.

No. We brief and support groups throughout; prior coaching or sport-science study is useful but not required, as our local team leads and supervises every session.
