Entrepreneurship & Business Skills Programme
SAVE Foundation’s Entrepreneurship and Business Skills Programme works alongside community members in Dunoon and the Northern Suburbs who are building or scaling micro-enterprises — providing structured business skills support, mentoring, and practical knowledge. Youth unemployment is one of South Africa’s most urgent development challenges: Stats SA’s expanded definition puts youth unemployment at close to 46%, among the highest youth unemployment rates in the world. Structured, practical entrepreneurship training is one of the few interventions shown to give young people outside the formal job market a realistic route to self-generated income.
The core of the programme is a structured entrepreneurship curriculum delivered through a hybrid of in-person facilitated sessions and guided digital coursework — a format chosen because consistent, face-to-face engagement has proven essential to how participants absorb and apply the material. Content runs across roughly 20 modules covering idea validation, budgeting and pricing, digital tools, pitching, and practical business planning, with each session prepared and supported by a dedicated lead facilitator. SAVE also trains local youth facilitators to help deliver the programme — creating a pathway for participants themselves to become paid facilitators for future cohorts, and laying the groundwork for jointly-funded Skills Development (SED) partnerships with corporate sponsors.

About this internship
Learning Outcomes
Do I need a business degree to apply?
No. People from any field with practical skills in budgeting, digital tools, or community facilitation are equally valuable.
Is the curriculum delivered online or in person?
Both. The programme combines guided digital coursework with regular in-person, facilitated sessions, as hands-on engagement is central to how participants work through the material and apply it to a real business idea.
What happens after the programme ends?
Participants finish with a completion certificate, a reference letter, and — for those who show strong aptitude — the opportunity to be trained and paid as facilitators on future cohorts, creating a direct pathway from participant to paid role.
