Experience world-class hospitality in South Africa through real-world placements rooted in learning, service and guest connection.
Hospitality & Tourism Internship
South Africa’s hospitality and tourism sector is one of the country’s largest employers and a critical economic engine for Cape Town, the Garden Route, and the Kruger region. This internship places you at a real, operating hospitality property — ranging from boutique guesthouses in Cape Town to 5-star safari lodges bordering some of the country’s most significant conservation areas. You will gain exposure to front-of-house operations, guest relations, food and beverage service, reservations, and — depending on placement — lodge or reserve operations in a safari context. This internship suits students of hospitality, tourism, or business management, as well as anyone building practical, transferable experience in a genuinely international industry.
What You Will Do
As an intern, your role will involve a mix of educational support and active engagement:
Front-of-House Operations
Guest relations and check-in/check-out operations at the front desk
Food & Beverage Service
Restaurant and bar service at your host property
Reservations & Bookings
Exposure to reservations and booking systems
Housekeeping Standards
Observation of housekeeping and operational standards
Property & Guest Systems
Exposure to property management, marketing and guest feedback systems
About this internship
Learning Outcomes
Do I need previous hospitality experience?
No prior experience is required, though hospitality, tourism, or business management study is helpful. A friendly, professional, customer-facing attitude matters most.
Where will I be placed — Cape Town, Garden Route, or Kruger?
Placement location depends on availability and your preference at time of application. Options range from boutique hotels in Cape Town to lodges along the Garden Route and 5-star safari properties near Kruger. Indicate your preference on your application and we will confirm what is available.
Will I work with wildlife or on safari at a lodge placement?
Safari lodge placements are hospitality-focused — guest relations, F&B, and lodge operations — rather than conservation or wildlife handling roles. If your primary interest is hands-on wildlife work, see our Botswana or Namibia conservation internships instead.
What hours will I work?
Hospitality operates on a shift basis, including weekends and some evenings, reflecting the real operational demands of the industry. Your host property will confirm your specific schedule.
